C.S. Lewis……rah, rah, rah!

29 07 2009

I was, am, and always will be a huge C.S. Lewis fan.  I have devoured everything from the Chronicles of Narnia to copies of his treatises and sermons.  Well, this morning, I got some great film news:

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Starts Filming!

Mon at 7:46pm
“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” the third in the epic series of films based on the bestselling books by C.S. Lewis, will begin principal photography on location in Queensland, Australia, today – July 27, 2009. The production, a joint venture between Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and Walden Media, continues the franchise which commenced with

The spectacular, Oscar®-winning 2005 release, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and its 2008 follow-up, “Prince Caspian,” whose combined global box office gross tops $1.2 billion.

This time around – Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their pesky cousin Eustace Scrubb – find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to a fantastic Narnian ship headed for the very edges of the world.

Joining forces once again with their royal friend Prince Caspian and the warrior mouse Reepicheep, they are whisked away on a mysterious mission to the Lone Islands, and beyond. On this bewitching voyage that will test their hearts and spirits, the trio will face magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, roaring dragons and enchanted merfolk. Only an entirely uncharted journey to Aslan’s Country – a voyage of destiny and transformation for each of those aboard the Dawn Treader – can save Narnia, and all the astonishing creatures in it, from an unfathomable fate.

Veteran filmmaker Michael Apted (the 007 epic “The World Is Not Enough,” “Gorillas in the Mist,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter”) is at the helm of the new Narnia venture. Returning as the Pevensie children are Georgie Henley as Lucy and Skandar Keynes as Edmund. Ben Barnes (”Easy Virtue,” “Dorian Gray”) reprises the role of Caspian. Cousin Eustace will be played by UK native Will Poulter (”Son of Rambow”).

The supporting cast includes several veterans of the Aussie film world, including Gary Sweet (”Stingers”), Bruce Spence (”Road Warrior”), Arthur Angel (”Ghost Rider”) and Kiwi native Shane Rangi, back for his third go-round in Lewis’ fantastical world (donning the guise of a Minotaur, as he did in the two previous films). And, lending his vocal talents again to the project is Academy Award® nominee Liam Neeson (”Kinsey,” “Schindler’s List”) as the all-powerful ruler of Narnia, Aslan the Lion.

See what I mean?  Lots of things are coming up.  Some of you may ask what this has to do with worship.  Have you ever read his works?  Two of my favorite lines are when Lucy is talking to (I believe) the beaver and she asks if Aslan (best book character EVER) is a safe lion.  The Answer comes:  “He’s not safe; but he’s good.”  Brings shivers to my spine!  The ther is when in “Surprised by Joy”, Lewis talks of his own salvation, as if he can actually hear the drip-drip of his melting, cold, icy heart.  Relate that to the drip-drip the children hear as Father Christmas comes, winter begins to leave Narnia, and they all know that Aslan is “on the move”!
I desire more than anything for “Aslan” (Jesus) to be on the move in my heart, in my home, and in my church, don’t you?  That’s worship!!!!!!

Give them all to Jesus…

24 07 2009

The past two weeks have been self-centered weeks for my family and myself.  As a pastor’s wife, it i easy for me to say, “Lay all your problems at Jesus’ feet”,,,but that operation and leaving the problems there is even harder.

A friend of mine write me this e-mail today.  I wanted to share it with you:

I often find myself worrying about things in my life that should be completely given to the Lord. Do you have that some problem? As adults, we might say we trust God with everything but do our lives truly demonstrate the faith that will move mountains? Why is it so difficult to allow God to manage these things in our lives that sometimes seem to manage us?
Matthew 6:25, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…….” OUCH!!!!

God’s Word encourages us not to worry about anything. His Word solidifies His promises to us that He will take care of us. When we allow worry and fear to creep into our lives we tend to focus only on the negative and miss opportunities presented to us. We become consumed by the possibilities of what could happen and sometimes that prevents us from recognizing what is actually transpiring in our lives. the enemy takes advantage of the doubt and fear which overwhelms our very being. We do not permit a place in our lives, time or desire for prayer or spending time with God when we are consumed with worry. We become useless as a Christian because we are so caught up in things we most likely cannot control or change. I believe we miss many blessings because we doubt that God can truly take care of us.

As Christians we must learn to trust God and completely relinquish all of our worries and fears to Him. We practice great lip service but do we sincerely place our trust in God and believe that He will take care of our every need? His Word explicitly assures us that we are not to worry about anything. Worry distracts us and hinders God’s will in our lives. God loves and cares for us just the same as we love our children, grandchildren and spouses. Allow Him to take care of your needs. Practice releasing every worry and concern to Him. You will be amazed at how well He manages and resolves issues in our lives that seem to be managing us.

blessings all……more later…..
